I have been taking photographs for more than 45 years, mainly on film. The monochrome medium suits my temperament and the subjects that capture my attention. A wonderful thing about photography is that we all see the world differently. Taking the picture and hand-printing it gives me the chance to reveal a perspective that you may not have noticed otherwise. Join me on a visual journey.

About Me
I was very fortunate to discover photography when I was 20. I was doing a journalism degree, and had to carry out a 3 month placement on a small newspaper. It turned out that I was the only reporter – and had to do the photography as well!
So began a love affair with film, darkroom & print-making. In the intervening years, I’ve exhibited in Cape Town (twice) and in the UK, in Riverside Studios, London, and Stamford, Lincolnshire.
I had a portfolio published in issue 261 of the Black & White Photography magazine in January 2022, and have been awarded “honourable mentions” in three photography awards during 2023.
Whilst I have done some landscapes, I’ve discovered over the years that the most satisfying pictures are those involving people.
I specialize in monochrome photography, continuously pushing boundaries to create standout images. What sets my work apart is my dedication to understanding each subject’s essence.
When not behind the camera, I enjoy watching the San Francisco 49ers and playing tennis, preferably on grass. Winter might find me on the ski slopes.
Some of my works
Over the years I’ve managed to work on a number of projects. In the early days, I struck up good relationships with the Snoek fishermen of Kalk Bay, Cape Town. Also took many pictures of people caught in the “buffer zone” between black and white during apartheid. Many treasured the prints I gave them, as they were the only images they had of themselves.
I have been fascinated by the montages created by worn & torn fly-posters where-ever I’ve travelled in the world. During a year in San Francisco, I focused on automobilia, as they play such a large part in US culture and life.
Back in the UK, in recent years my lens has been pointed at enthusiasts doing the things they’re enthusiastic about, model railways, traction engines, re-enactments, and steampunks. and I’m currently engaged in a project on farmers.
